
What will you learn?
In this training program, participants will gain a deeper understanding of child and adolescent mental health issues, including how to identify and address them using evidence-based screening tools. You will:
- Understand the CAMHI network, resources, and recommended mental health screening instruments.
- Learn to recognize symptoms, understand the impact, and utilize appropriate screening tools for anxiety and depression.
- Understand and screen for conditions such as autism spectrum disorders and other neurodevelopmental issues.
- Identify and manage attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and conduct disorder.
- Recognize and address various eating disorders prevalent among children and adolescents.
- Equip yourself with the tools to identify and manage substance use disorders among adolescents.
- Learn to assess and manage the risk of harm, including post-traumatic stress disorder, self-harm, and aggression.
What is the training program content?
1. Introduction to CAMHI, Screening Tools, Statistics, and Communication Skills
- Overview of CAMHI and its resources.
- Introduction to psychometric properties of screening instruments.
- Effective communication strategies with children, adolescents, and caregivers.
2. Screening for Anxiety & Depression
- Symptoms and prevalence of anxiety and depression.
- Use of the Revised Children's Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS-25).
- Case studies and role-playing exercises.
3. Screening for Neurodevelopmental Disorders
- Identification and management of autism spectrum disorders and other neurodevelopmental issues.
4. Screening for ADHD, ODD, & Conduct Disorder
- Differentiating between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and conduct disorder.
- Utilizing appropriate screening tools.
5. Screening for Eating Disorders
- Recognizing signs and symptoms of eating disorders.
- Implementing effective screening techniques.
6. Screening for Substance Use Disorders
- Addressing substance use among adolescents.
- Tools and strategies for effective screening.
7. Risk of Harm & Screening for PTSD, Self-Harm, & Aggression
- Assessing and managing the risk of harm.
- Screening for PTSD, self-harm, and aggression.
